Following the success of the first ever Commonwealth Youth Awards 2021 virtual event. First Image were asked again by the Commonwealth Secretariat to create the 2022 Awards Ceremony.

The awards celebrate the entrepreneurial contributions of young people from all of the 54 countries across the Commonwealth in achieving the UN global development goals and showcase the work of outstanding young people who are leading initiatives ranging from poverty alleviation to peace building.

Each year an outstanding entrant is named Commonwealth Young Person of the Year, with regional awards given for Asia, the Pacific, the Caribbean and Americas, Africa and Europe.

There were just 4 weeks from being appointed to event delivery. The brief was to create “a live, engaging and inclusive event” that would be streamed to Facebook Live as the main platform, but which could also be broadcast by TV companies around the Commonwealth and reach as many people as possible around the world.

The programme was conceived in collaboration with our lovely production partner H2 who scripted, produced and filmed the finalists, host and some amazing musical acts, whilst First Image supervised the filming, led the creative design package, promotional content across all channels and handled the post production.

Results

The live stream had 1,000 live views and has since had 82,700 views – more views than any other Commonwealth project ever. To add to audience engagement, the host (Mark De-Lisser) was watching on the live stream and adding personal words of congratulations and encouragement during the broadcast. In all over 279,000 users were reached, 67,600 minutes of live video were viewed, over 300 engagements and 3,400 clicks to play. The top 5 countries for the live stream were India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Fiji and The Gambia. It was aired by 14 terrestrial TV stations in the Caribbean, many at prime time, on 20 cable stations, including stations in Canada and the US and on 2 IPTV global stations.
